![]() If you dont have the expertise to set up your own revision control system, you might want to consider using dropbox or similar. You can use external devices, hard disks or USB sticks, and copy manually, or set up a revision control system, GIT, and the like. TeXShop is distributed under the GPL public license, and thus free. Its a lesson we all learn, make backups, lots of backups. Both of these versions are available on this site. Editor and select (under the Preview tab) Automatic Preview Update. Users with systems 10.2 or 10.3 should use TeXShop 1.43, and users with systems 10.0 and 10.1 should use TeXShop 1.19. LaTeX and TeXShop and Screen These days, I use TeXShop for the Mac using emacs as. An earlier version of TeXShop, version 2, is also maintained and requires System 10.4 (Tiger), although System 10.5 (Leopard) is strongly recommended because it fixes several important bugs in Apple's PDFKit code, extensively used in TeXShop. The latest TeXShop release, version 3, requires System 10.7 (Lion). The most recent version of this distribution is maintained for the Mac by the MacTeX TeXnical Working Group of the TeX Users Group and available under the "Obtaining" tab. The distribution includes tex, latex, dvips, tex fonts, cyrillic fonts, and virtually all other programs and supporting files commonly used in the TeX world. TeXShop uses TeX Live, a standard distribution of Tex programs maintained by the TeX Users Group (TUG) for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, and various other Unix machines. Since PDF is a native file format on OS X, TeXShop uses "pdftex" and "pdflatex" rather than "tex" and "latex" to typeset these programs in the standard teTeX distribution of TeX produce PDF output instead of DVI output. In version 5 of TeXShop, there is a new html preview window, which can be used to preview typesetting jobs which output html rather than pdf. When navigating the completion list, a brief description is shown for the selected item. ![]() Latexian includes Code Completion for LaTeX and BibTeX documents. The PDF preview appears in a split pane and updates automatically. It provides a source editor, a preview window to display pdf files. Live Preview allows you to see how your document typesets while you are editing. Shortly after TeXShop was released, Dirk. TeXShop is a free program, released under the GPL. Notice the button named Typeset at the ex-treme left of the editing window. ![]() I found a fix in a comment on Stack Exchange.TeXShop is a TeX previewer for OS X, written in Cocoa. TeXShop is a front end to TeX on the Macintosh. The preview window has buttons which increase or decrease magnication and page forward or backward. This is annoying causing me to click or Command-Tab back to the Terminal to continue typing. ![]() For texstudio: options > configure texstudio > build > default viewer > tick 'external PDF viewer'. However, by default, TeXShop will steal focus from the editor window. options -> configure -> untick embed in pdf viewer category. Mac OS X's built-in Preview will do this as well, but you must click the window to enable the refresh. I then use TeXShop as a PDF viewer because it has the nice ability to detect changes to the PDF output and autoupdate. The -pvc option keeps it running in the background and recompiles with a detected change in any of the project files. I too for the sake of compatibility stuck with TeXworks on both platforms when I started my ventures into LaTeX, but since then have moved to TeXShop on my mac. If your not familiar with latexmk it is a Perl script that, in a smart way, using minimal number of compile runs, keeps your LaTeX document output up-to-date with the correct cross-references, citations, etc. So if you want to use the same editor on both machines you could use TeXworks which runs on both Mac and PC. My usual workflow is to use a split window setup with tmux and run latexmk -pvc on my LaTeX file in one split-pane while editing the source file in the other split-pane. I use Vim as my editor of choice for nearly all text editing activities including writing LaTeX documents.
